YOU MUST READ THIS.

YOU MUST READ THIS.

Now, I know, I know – people are tripping over themselves to read my blog. It’s flattering, stop stop. No, really – stop.

I’m just kidding. Come back. I love you. And you are beautiful.

But today I’m going to do something a little different. Mostly because I ABSOLUTELY MUST WIN THIS ARC OR I WILL GO CRAZY BEFORE JANUARY.

As a reward for churning out a few pages of the WIP for the first time in like.. coughamonthcough.. I dabbled around twitter. Seriously, it’s becoming a problem. But this was a treat, so totally allowable. Off to the side, I found Jamie Harrington, one of the lovely ladies who helped run WriteOnCon, and started reading her fabulous blog (side bar: I am crazy jealous of her URL.It totally is the bomb). What did mine eyes see?

Isn't it gorgeous?

First of all, I thought it was a book based on the incredibly amazing movie, Across the Universe, and got excited. Mostly because the movie is amazing and I fell in love despite my dislike for the Beatles. (That’s right, y’all. I said it.)

B. This is one of the neatest covers I’ve seen in a good while.

Thirdly: Jamie promised it was, hands down, the best first chapter she’s ever read ever. Considering we’ve just met, so to speak, I was weary. Best ever? Seriously? Then, THEN, she follows this by assuring the whole world wide web that the book was every bit as good as the first chapter and then some. Those are some big words and even bigger shoes.

Linked was the first chapter. You may drool over read it here. You may thank me HERE. Like,  in this blog.

Seriously. Amazing. Jaw dropping. Totally enthralling. Absolutely devastating to see the final page scroll up.

So, I did what any normal person would do – catapulted over a large puppy and a small dog, sprinted into my room, grabbed my Nook, nearly ripped a socket out of the wall in process, and frantically attempted to make my expensive ebook reader turn on so I could buy it RIGHTHISVERYSECOND. Alas, the battery did not want to cooperate and I spent a good two minutes yelling at Virginia Woolfe to get the flip off of the screen.

Then I resorted to the trusty desktop. Only to discover this book isn’t being released until January 11, 2011. JANUARY?! NOOOOOOOOO! I pouted. I pleaded with Amazon. I bartered with B&N. I tried to wish it into being. Finally, I accepted my fate.

Now, I don’t follow a whole lot of writers or budding writers or newly agented authors or well.. you get the idea. Honestly, I don’t have much time. Every once in a while, I will decide to abandon the To Do List and read, but not often. Discovering Beth Revis and her amazing debut makes me wonder what else I’m missing out there?

To be honest, I’m not particularly concerned at the moment, because I really really really want this book. Thusly, I am writing this positively absurd post in an attempt to win an ARC. Why, you may ask? Did you read the above? Is it too nonsensical? That’s possible, I’ve been a little ridiculous lately. But I do know this:

Beth Revis successfully reaches into your core, wraps her words around you, and leaves you begging for more. Pleading for more. Desperate. She introduces you to teenage Amy, who is about to give up everything for the promise of a future, and paints her so vividly in ink you would swear you could pinch her and she’d scream. Then she nails you hard with a cliffhanger that has you pleading with Amazon, bartering with B&N…. well, you get the picture.

Long and short is this: Across the Universe is beautiful, mystical, and completly entrancing. Go read the first chapter and suffer with me for the next several months until it releases. Unless, of course, I win an ARC. In which case – ninny ninny boo boo. But you know, with love and stuff. <3

    • I thought of the movie first. It took me a minute or so to shake that link and move on. On her blog, she notes this is a scifi thriller for people who don’t like scifi. So far, I’m completely sold.

  2. Yaay! Thanks for the shout out!!

Seriously, it’s SO good… I read it last week, and it’s one of those stories that just sticks with you. I have a feeling I’ll be thinking about it for a loooong time. :)

  3. That first chapter IS amazing!!!! And that cover… *DROOL* (*wipes drool before it drips on amazing cover*). Seriously. I hope you win!!!

PS: did you see the link I posted on Twitter about how Beth Revis came up with that first chapter? If not, READ IT NOW. I’m seriously inspired to rework my opening chapter(s).

    • I did & it was fabulous. She made such a great point. AND AND AND now i’m all excited to see what you’ll do with your WIP next.

      DO IT NOW.

….. ahem. I’ll get on those remaining crits asap.

  5. I’M SO EXCITED YOU WON! (refraining myself from exclamation point overdose here)

Your ninny ninny boo boo at the end of your post is making me laugh right now, because I’m picturing you talking like those old sconefaces we discussed yesterday.
